My deck looks gray, how do I get it back to the original look ? Nails have started popping up all over the deck, how do I reset them ? Once my deck is power washed, do I need to seal it ? Use a nail setter and hammer. Be sure to use the correct size nail setter.
Once my deck is power washed, do I need to seal it ?
Absolutely, you need to apply deck sealer. This will keep your deck looking nice and in good shape for years to come.
Do I need to seal IPE deck ?
Yes. IPE is very dense wood, which can resist rotting. However to keep it looking nice, you need to seal it periodically (once every twelve months or so). Bear in mind that, IPE decks are tricky to refinish.Make sure you use the right sealer, most product out there are made for redwood and cedar.
How do I apply the sealer ?
Use a high quality brush or roller. and follow the wood grain. Do a couple of boards at the time.
How do I seal IPE or Mahogany deck ?
Make sure you use sealer made for IPE and Mahogany.
Are oil base sealers better than water base ?
Not necessarily, you can find a high quality water base sealer on the market, that exceed oil base products.
One board seems to be rotten, do I need to replace it or just leave it alone?
You should replace any rotten boards; it is not going to get any better. The earlier the better. Dry rot can spread out to adjacent boards.
